I also have a Mac mini serving as an htpc in my Bedroom rig, so it would be nice to have all the music files stored in one place on the home network so that I can play them on either either rig, as well as listen to them on my Macbook pro with headphones, if I choose to. (in parenthesis, I have a synology NAS that I shall soon set up to store music and video files.

The apple tv is hooked up to my main Ht/ 2-.1stereo rig via an Emotiva DAC (DC-1) I typically play my music from i-tunes on my Macbook pro, through apple TV via airplay. I'm sure of one thing, like most I am tired of all the moving targets we have been faced with of late.I am considering buying one of these products to improve my music listening experience, and I hope I can get some help here. I'm looking forward to trying the Atmos feature of the new service with the AV system. With the new Apple Music lossless, CD HD offering it finally tics enough boxes for me to return to Apple Music. All are controlled with various iPhones and iPads. I have a 2012 Mac mini feeding a Schitt Modius DAC in the listening room, a 2018 Mac mini and a Apple TV 4K feeding a Sony AV receiver in our play room, an Apple TV HD direct to a Samsung TV in the bedroom and a Airport Express feeding a Kenwood receiver in my work shop. I have two audio only systems, and two AV systems. I mostly found it again with Audirvana and Qobuz, but not entirely. I am at a point now where I can make compromises when appropriate in that elusive last 10 percent of the sound.īeing an Apple user, I was pretty happy with what they offered in iTunes then Music except for lossless CD quality. I think for the audio enthusiast it has been more of a struggle because we follow the audio quality while also wanting straight forward ease of use. Funny how my 'obsolete' vinyl collection isn't really all that obsolete. I'm sure glad I didn't spend the big money on a dedicated streamer. I've got 3 Roku's and they're in a pissing contest with YouTubeTV. The big take away for streaming is that being "all set" doesn't last very darn long. I'll probably keep using 3.5 as long as it remains viable and see what shakes out.
My laptop is new so Apple Music Hi Res may be a future solution, but my dedicated Mac Mini in the bedroom is much too old for Big Sur so that would require a newer used Mac Mini. One of the things on my Audirvana wish list is embedded internet radio which Studio delivers on so that's a big incentive.

I had Tidal HiFi for a good 6 month deal after the 3 month trial and I'm not really sold on Tidal - mainly because it's browser and sorting aren't to my liking. Like many here I'm not keen on subscription software, so far I only subscribe to Quicken. I guess the main attraction is updates come sooner instead of piling things on for later with paid updates.
Some things are worth it… but way too may companies are going this route without offering a significant reason for doing so. I don’t want fifty different subscriptions which is where things are headed. It is a lot more flexible than Audirvana and it’s free. I already use LMS for Casting, AirPlay and Bluetooth. Outside of that, I would switch to LMS and just be happy with it. Not sure why or what they are doing, but it sounds cleaner. Personally, I like the way it sounds on my main system more than other apps I have tried. Also, support for more services would be very helpful. It does sound like the beginning of the end unless they start putting in features most everyone is using… Casting, AirPlay, Bluetooth.
I don’t think this app offers enough to go subscription alongside apps like Roon that offer a lot more.
